How To Buy

Specializing in field-grown landscape size nursery stock that is produced on over 750 acres of fields in Central Virginia, Watkins' wholesale division "picks up where the container producer leaves off," and provides quality plant material for projects of any magnitude or specification.  With our centralized East Coast location, Watkins is able to ship from Long Island to Charlotte, however, we have supplied plants as far north as Boston, as far south as Orlando and as far west as Seattle.  Also, through the use of drip irrigation, Watkins is able to dig and ship many specimens throughout the year.

Whatever your needs, Watkins is ready to provide personalized service from tagging to delivery scheduling via our knuckle boom trucks or tractor trailers.  We can even dig and transport oversized trees on our 60" and 80" truck-mounted tree spades.  Visit our Contact page to request more information or digital pictures of a specific tree (usually within 24 business hours).

The Soil is the Key

Because our trees and shrubs grow in normal, dense soils, once planted they don't show the tendency to stay within the bounds of the more porous root ball which plants grown in highly organic or sandy soils do. And because our trees are used to gaining nutrients from the soil they haven't become overly dependent on chemical fertilizers. These methods make our stock highly adaptable to the variety of conditions they will encounter when planted in the landscape.

In addition, clay loam soil gives us the ability to dig our nursery stock with solid root balls that will withstand the rigors of transportation and handling with less chance of damage to the root system.
